Welcome to Veterans Memorial Park
Veterans Memorial Park is in the heart of downtown Stamford, Connecticut. In the past two decades, there have been several efforts to improve this park, but due to an aging infrastructure and new urban dynamics it remained underutilized, in poor condition, and unappreciated.
In 2014 members of the Stamford community took the first steps to effect change and the renovation and revitaization process of the park began. In 2018, a public/private partnership was established between the City of Stamford and Stamford Veterans Park Partnership, Inc. and construction on the park started. In November 2019 the first of three phases of the park’s renovation was completed and celebrated on Veterans Day.
As the world emerged from a pandemic, Phase II construction was completed with the unveiling of the Gold Star Monument in 2022. A long-team strategic plan began to take shape that included plans for enhancements in the park to ensure it remained a destination point not only for enjoyment, but also as a gateway learn about Stamford's rich history.
Stamford Veterans Park Partnership with the help of a grant from the Stamford URC enhanced the Veteran & Military History Program with the addition of a Veteran and Military History Retrospective. This program included the installation of three storyboards and a plaque in honor of three Medal of Honor recipients from stamford in the fall of 2023 complemented by a monolith interactive kiosk installed in the fall of 2024.
